Evolution Korea
For a long time the scientific community in Korea has refrained from engaging with the creationists, fearing that doing so could boost the credibility of the group. But silence is no anymore an option.
The STR has been fighting to remove information about evolution from textbooks including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. But this is merely one aspect of the evolution of the development paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a concept in science that explains the evolution of genetic traits over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which could result in variations in genes or whole genomes. Over the course of many generations the changes could result in the creation of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is natural selection, which describes the process that allows people with advantages survive and reproduce more frequently than those with less favorable characteristics. This differential reproduction can eventually lead to the creation and evolution of new species.
The word "evolution", which comes from the Latin for revealing or unrolling, has been used in many different ways as the concept has evolved, both in science and in other fields. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to evolve into a different species. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire, Lamarck's embryologist student who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this theory. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833, attacked this idea and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the notion that existing species change into different species in an orderly and predictable manner.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process in which living organisms develop traits to improve their chances of living or conceiving offspring. As time passes the genetic variability could result in the development of entirely new biological functions or physical traits in the population. Natural selection is the process that drives the most evolutionary changes. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass through exercise or diet, can't be considered evolution because they aren't passed on to the next generation.
Creationists are using the argument that evolution is controversial, in spite of the fact that it has been proven to be true by thousands of scientific tests and that it has been tested over time. They claim that the theory shouldn't be taught at school. In South Korea, creationists have had a few wins in their campaign to exclude evolution from high school textbooks which includes the removal of references to the evolutionary history of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur thought to be an ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It is one of the fundamentals of biology and helps scientists discover how living things operate and grow. Evolution also helps us understand the connections between species. Scientists study evolution to gain a better understanding of the natural world and also to make important discoveries, such as developing new medicines.
The evidence for biological evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that can explain so much about the universe as well as life on Earth and has been rigorously tested and confirmed over the course of many years. Many people, and even religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is essential to remember that evolutionary biology isn't in interfere with religious beliefs since it only deals with physical objects, events, and processes.
In fact, many religious people have discovered ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. For instance some Christians believe that God created the world through evolution and that humans share an ancestry with other animals.
It is essential that science educators advocate for the teaching evolution. In certain countries, the anti-evolution movement has been rising. In the United States, efforts to restrict the teaching of evolution have made headway in a few states. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) which is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research is urging the removal of textbooks on the evolution of horses and the Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
It is important to remember, however, that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution is based on a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics, and even the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.
The vast majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. The reasons for this support vary. Certain scientists study evolution in order to discover practical solutions that can lead to the development of new treatments, while others are motivated by an interest in improving the quality of life for animals and plant species, typically for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are just curious, while others hold a a strong religious belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians However, not all. Creationists are generally divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
YECs are the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is true and that the universe and life on Earth was created only recently.
OECs are less well known However, they are just as committed to their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and they believe that evolution is an untruth.
Both forms of creationism deny that scientific principles such as natural selection and biogenesis can explain how life began on Earth. They argue that evolution isn't possible because it would require an extraordinary event, and that the scientists who founded modern science rejected miracles out of fear of losing credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as 에볼루션바카라사이트 special creation, and refer to their view "theistic evolution." This is sometimes also called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." The theory says that God creates species from scratch and then allows them to evolve over time. Eventually the evolutionary changes produce new species that are identical to the original species.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in a single event known as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that the first species were all created at the same time, and that they grew slowly afterwards. They deny the notion of abiogenesis and assert that self-replicating life can't come from non-living matter.
In general, the creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. Numerous professional organizations like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. However, some scientists and educational institutions are more flexible, and allow for the inclusion of creationism and evolution in their curricula.
What is Creationism?
When people think of creationism most often, they think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolution movement. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently declared that they will be removing references to evolution from their editions. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. STR has achieved its first victory by removing examples of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor, called the Archeopteryx, from textbooks. The focus is now on removing snippets of Darwin's infamous finch research and on human evolution too.
STR claims to have the support of around 4,000 families and individuals. Its goal is to weed out what it believes is the "atheist materialism" that paints an unhopeful worldview for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of students in biology found that half did not believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear however, they could be related to religious beliefs and the lack of full-time creation scientists across the country.
The KACR accomplished a number of things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and the book. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences, with an evolutionary perspective that attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor started teaching Creation Science in one university and it continues to be taught until today.
On August 7 and 8 in 1993, the same day that the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from abroad including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin presented to thousands of people. KACR members and KACR have also given talks on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
